What does it really mean to be a ‘clean girl’? At Lily Pilly, a hypothetical makeup and skincare line I created during a Sustainable Packaging course, being a ‘clean girl’ means investing in beauty products that are rooted in quality and environmental sustainability. Adhering to the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines, Lily Pilly’s commitment extends to include packaging that is not only recyclable and refillable, but also designed for reuse.

The Clean Girl Aesthetic
It seems that now, folk are reverting back to the less-is-more “no make-up make-up look” — also known as The Clean Girl Aesthetic. Striving for that fresh-out-of-pilates look, Clean Girls emphasise all that is clear skin,  a dewy complexion and rosy cheeks.

Quiet Luxury
The slick-back hairstyles, defined cheekbones and gold jewellery that are quintessential characteristics to the Clean Girl Aesthetic perfectly lends itself into the Quiet Luxury Aesthetic. Quiet Luxury emphasises all that  is subtle and timeless.

Sustainable Packaging Guidelines
Abiding by the Sustainable Packaging Guidelines (SPGs) set forth by the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO), this checklist of life cycle considerations enabled me to design the most environmentally sustainable cosmetic packaging I could.

TerraCycle
TerraCycle is a recycling program that specifically cleans, sorts and processes “beauty empties” that would otherwise  go to landfill.
